Our Farm Shop
Please observe the measures we have put in place, to enable customers to shop comfortably, whilst at the same time socially distancing. This is to protect our customers and staff. You may be asked to wait for a few moments before entering, so that numbers of customers in the shop at any one time, may be controlled.
We care passionately about the quality of produce and service within our farm shop and have, for more than fifty years, grown, raised, made and selected only the finest meat, cheese, dressings, pickles & preserves, ice-cream, seasonal fruit & vegetables and even confectionery from like-minded small-scale producers. We are proud to hold more Sussex produce than any other retailer anywhere as we source locally whenever and wherever possible.
The relationships we have built, and continue to build, with our suppliers are absolutely key to what we do. If we cannot find what we want in Sussex we seek out the very best of farm and farmhouse produce from throughout the British Isles. We also try to offer a comprehensive range of organic produce and a range of goods for those with special dietary requirements.
We sell fresh raw milk from our lovely Jerseys and recently added Jersey ice cream to our range of provisions. Enjoy a cone whilst you wander around, or take home a tub to enjoy with friends and family at your leisure. And if we get a moment anytime soon, we might even look into making our own butter and cheese, so watch this space!
Our seasonal fruit and vegetables come from local growers like Gary Griffiths with his astonishing range of Nutbourne Nursery tomatoes and the Douglas family with their superb asparagus from Little Horsted. Our plums come from Tom Maynard’s farm in Wadhurst or Tendring Farm in Magham Down and our strawberries from a variety of farms in East Sussex. At apple harvest each year we ‘wow’ our visitors with an unparalleled array of locally-grown fruit of the highest quality from growers like Chris Dench in Flimwell, David Knight in Pembury and Matthew & Carol Wilson in Robertsbridge.
We stock 25 Sussex cheeses amongst more than 80 different British cheeses. Cheeses from cow’s milk, goat’s milk and sheep’s milk: pasteurised and unpasteurised, vegetarian and non-vegetarian, soft, hard and inbetween. From classic traditional varieties such as Quicke’s Farmhouse Cheddar from deepest Devon and Cropwell Bishop Stilton from Nottinghamshire to the more unusual Flower Marie from Kevin and Alison Blunt just up the road from us and the famous Stinking Bishop from Charles Martell in Gloucestershire. By public demand, we also stock the best that the rest of the world has to offer for your cheese board. If you need help, advice or a taster we are always happy to oblige. If you need something a little special for that big day we are more than happy to supply cheese wedding cakes to order.
Our own range of jams, marmalades and chutneys still grace the shelves of our farm shop as they have since 1960 – hand made in small batches in the traditional farmhouse way, without compromise.
As farmers, we fully recognise how essential pollinators are and support our local beekeepers and their lovely bees, as we have always done, by supplying a range of local honey, both raw and pasteurised.
Also available are Sussex mayonnaises, salad dressings, award-winning local flavoured vinegars and oils. We stock locally-made charcoal for the barbecue season and in the winter locally-sourced logs and kindling for your open fire or woodburner.
